This site aims to create a list of community and government crime intervention programs which aim to reduce the risk of offences being committed and which aim to engage offenders and at risk youth in an effort to reduce their likelihood of becoming involved with the criminal justice system.

Community standards and actions – maybe not law enforcement – do the majority of the function of crime control. Community members can establish expectations for non violence and intervene directly with the few people in the highest risk for violent victimization or transgressing. It has been widely shown that people obey the law not because of risk of punishment but because it is the right thing to do.

This website doesn’t constitute an endorsement of special programs or practices. Additionally, it is not intended to replace or supersede informed judgment. We also recognize the significance of supporting and encouraging innovative approaches which may not yet have considerable evidence of effectiveness. The list is simply provided as-is and is not in any way a definitive list of programs that may be in operation.
